This summer, a crazy girl I met in Stuttgart started teaching her German roommate words and phrases that were 'uniquely American.' Among them were the words to that timeless classic, "Baby got back," the song that gave all of the women in the western world the freedom to have that extra pint of Ben & Jerry's because we knew it was going to go straight to the booty and who doesn't like more of that? Sir Mix-a-Lot does, that's for sure.
Well this morning, feeling a little blue and tired after spending the week working on a paper on Apollinaire and Poulenc, eyes slightly crossed from staring at microfilm and computer screens and reading small print in French, my husband introduced me to this crazy online musician guy named Jonathan Coulton. And Jonathan Coulton, obviously sensing my need, did a remake of "Baby got back," in what I can only describe as a mix of John Mayer, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and They Might be Giants.
Dear friends, PLEASE go to this website and listen to 'Baby got back,' under the album heading of "Thing a week one."
It will make your day, just as it made mine. And with that said, I now have the strength to go back to my paper on Apollinaire.
